Fiona Craig: Visionary Artist
Fiona Craig studied and painted in both the UK and Australia. Working in oils and acrylics, she draws on her own sketches to express a distinctive imagination. These drawings often explore body forms as well as the built and natural environments, forming the foundation of her large-scale works.

Exhibiting in the UK, Australia, and Spain Fiona currently paints from her studio in central Palma de Mallorca, Spain. However, when employed as a teacher in Australia, she was periodically based in fringe environments of the Aboriginal communities of Eastern Australia and Sydney. In these locations, she learned how Indigenous people, deeply rooted in ancient mythology, cultivated their highly creative and unique artistic expression. Through her research into Indigenous cultures around the world, Fiona was able to identify how ancient mythological stories correspond to the ancient symbols used in art. She discovered that Aboriginal myth and beliefs are not only represented by visual images, but also through dance, food gathering, sound in order to express the relationship between earth and sky.
Guided by her Australian experience Fiona has, in more recent years, explored not the ancient but the medieval symbology embedded in Spain’s highly elaborate architectural structures. In contrast, she has observed the differences between Indigenous art and the traditions of her own Western culture. Fiona observes how building constructions can globally mirror the natural world—representing earth, sky, and nature in beautifully assembled forms.

Through rich experiences during travel, Fiona Craig uniquely interprets natural and cultural concepts into the design of her artworks.
